Frequently Asked Questions
Q How will the 8th edition textbook impact the CRCST certification exam?
AThe 8th edition of the CS Technical Manual was used as references for the 2017 edition of the CRCST exam [released July 1, 2017]. The 7th edition is no longer considered a reference for the test. Currently, every question on the CRCST exam can be referenced to at least one of the following:
- IAHCSMM's CS Technical Manual (8th edition),
- AAMI/ANSI/s ST79 (2010 edition, reaffirmed in 2014 with Amendments 1-4), and/or
- AORN's Guidelines for Perioperative Practice (2017).
Q I have a 7th Edition and am studying for the CRCST exam. Do I need to buy a new book?
AWhile it is not required that you purchase the 8th edition textbook, please be aware that the 7th edition manual is no longer a current reference for the CRCST exam. As of July 1, 2017, the test will draw upon material from the 8th edition. (Material from the 7th edition may be outdated or not found).
Q Is there be a workbook for the 8th Edition?
AThere is a workbook for the 8th edition, and is available as a part of the "box set" as well. The workbook is designed to provide activities to reinforce the concepts addressed in the 8th edition text.
Q Why did IAHCSMM decide to stop selling an Instructors' Guide?
AIAHCSMM will not offer an Instructor's Guide with the Eighth Edition text. There were several reasons for the move away from a dedicated Instructor's Guide. Major factors in the decision included: the wide variety in types of courses held; differing student needs and methods of delivery; the move away from using only IAHCSMM materials to prepare for an exam and recent incidents of Internet piracy. Those teaching a course should assess their students' needs and develop materials that best meet those needs.
