Technician Achievement Award

This award recognizes a Central Service technician who has made significant improvements in the function and operation of their department. The Technician Achievement Award was established in honor of Margaret J. (Peggy) Ryan, RN. Peggy graduated from St. Luke’s Hospital School of Nursing in Denver, Colo., and has had extensive experience in Emergency Department, Operating Room, Labor and Delivery, Service Department and Materiels Management. She has worked at several hospitals in the Denver area and has served as a hospital consultant for many years. She has been active in AORN and is a past president of ASHCSP. She has won numerous awards and has served as a nurse consultant for several companies. She is the author of many articles, including what many consider to be the definitive article on implementing a CS / OR case cart system. She is also a renowned lecturer.

Nominees will be evaluated on a typewritten narrative that describes an improvement(s) the technician made that has benefited CS functions and operations, or led to other positive outcomes within the department or facility.

The recipient of this award will be recognized during the 2021 Annual Conference and Expo, and will receive an engraved plaque and a monetary award in the amount of $1,000.

Please note: a person may not be the recipient of this award for two consecutive years.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Nominee has been an active member of IAHCSMM in good standing for at least one year
  • Nominee has been employed in the CS field for a minimum of three years
  • Technician must be nominated by either a department coordinator, supervisor, manager, director or administrator within their facility
  • Technician is actively working in the department

Additional Information

  • Brief written description of the improvement(s) the nominee/technician made that has benefited CS functions and operations, or led to other positive outcomes within the department or facility
  • Optional supporting documentation of positive outcomes that were a result of the improvements implemented by the nominee/technician
