Most environments include the technical functions of reprocessing, decontamination, disinfection, preparation, packaging, sterilization and distribution. The body of knowledge associated with these highly technical functions is referred to as Central Service Technology. We're based on Long Island, New York.

Chapter News:

For the tenth year, the Long Island Association for Central Service (LIACS) partnered with the Mid-Atlantic Central Service Association to co-host the IAHCSMM Northeast Regional Fall Meeting. Our annual fall meeting is held on the Sunday and Monday before Thanksgiving at the Tropicana Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City. Years ago, IAHCSMM held annual fall meetings; once IAHCSMM stopped hosting fall meetings, regional fall meetings were still held by chapters. Our two chapters have continued this format throughout the years and have combined to offer an annual two-day educational conference with hot topics taught by renowned national speakers.

Our theme for the 2015 fall meetings was "Paving the Road to Excellence: Your GPS to Infection Prevention" and we saw great numbers for attendees and vendor exhibits. Our speakers included Rick Schultz, Richard Schule, Chuck Hughes, Mary Ann Drosnock, Kaumudi Kulkami, Cory Nestman and Ken Washington. Our timely topics and exceptional speakers produced a format that met all objectives of our meeting theme. Many thanks to our wonderful speakers and vendors for another successful conference.

In other news, New York State has just completed its first year of required certification. We applaud all who now have certification in their state or are working toward reaching this important goal.

Upcoming Meetings:

LIACS is again hosting its Annual Technician's Learn Around.  This day-long event will be held in April at the Dolan Center for Learning in Huntington, NY.  Six vendor stations will be on hand, and each vendor will provide a 45-minute presentation and a 15-minute Question and Answer session.  As attendees register, they will be assigned in one of six groups.  Each group will start at one station and then rotate through all six vendor presentations.  Attendees will receive 6 CEs for this event.  A continental breakfast and pizza lunch will be provided, as well, all for a nominal fee of $20.  We try and keep attendance to a maximum of 60 people, which allows us to keep each group size to ten people or fewer, and allow for more effective learning.

Please watch this space for more exciting upcoming LIACS events. And, don't forget to check out Our Meeting Calendar.
