To advocate for professionalism within the Sterile Processing industry in Kentucky and Southern Indiana by:
- Pooling the knowledge and experience of members for the purpose of providing the best service possible to all departments of the hospitals;
- Discussing and attempting to solve problems submitted by fellow members;
- Stimulating interest in CSSD improvements through presentation of new techniques and products; and
- Promoting and improving processes and techniques through collaboration and networking within the Kentuckiana region and across the country.

April 6, 2019. Sterile processing professionals from Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Missouri and Pennsylvania attended our spring educational meeting at Baptist Health Hospital in Paducah, Ky. The meeting was led by veteran speakers Lisa Huber and Karen Owens from STERIS's Clinical Education Department. Topics included "Wet Packs: How to Prevent Them," "Steam Sterility Assurance Monitoring," "Cleaning Challenges Related to Biofilms," "Low Temperature Processing: An Update on Guidelines, Standards and Requirements," "Decontamination and Safe Handling of Reusable Devices" and "High Level Disinfection and Sterilization Options for Flexible Device." Six total CE units were available.
October 27, 2018. In honor of the annual International Central Service Week that occurred one week prior, our fall meeting took place at the UK Health Care Chandler Medical Center, University of Kentucky. It was the first time in recent memory that a Lexington, Ky., hospital hosted a chapter meeting. A special thank you to Jared Weber, BA, CRCST, CIS, CHL, CER, the Enterprise Central Sterile Education Coordinator, University of Kentucky Health Care, for serving as the host hospital coordinator and post-meeting tour guide of the hospital's SPD. The meeting featured industry leaders and veteran speakers David Jagrosse, CRCST, CHL, of Connecticut, and Alison Sonstelie, BS, CRCST, CHL, of North Dakota. Both were sponsored by OneSource, the document management service company based in Salt Lake City, Utah. Alison spoke on "Continuous Improvement for Everyday Processing" and "A Winning Approach to Professional Relationships." And David spoke on "CSS @ War" and "Teamwork and Communication: Forecasting the Surgical Schedule." A total of 6.0 CE units were available.
April 14, 2018. Our third annual vendor fair and spring meeting was a great success. This first gathering in 2018 was held at KentuckyOne Health's Jewish Hospital in Louisville, Ky. A special thank you to the vendors for their presence and support, and especially ReadySet Surgical (Cincinnati, Ohio) for sponsoring guest speaker Rose Seavey (Colorado), oneSOURCE (Salt Lake City, Utah) sponsoring our other guest speaker David Jagrosse (Connecticut), and Casechek (Chicago, Ill.) for providing lunch. The four educational seminars included SPD Accreditation Surveys; The Wild, Wild West of SPD; Wet Packs: Time to Reprocess; and CSSD Teamwork and Communication. Meeting attendees received 5.5 CE credits.
August 5, 2017: Baptist Health Paducah in Paducah, Ky., served as host as our newly revived (April 2016) Kentucky/Southern Indiana chapter seeks to continue to offer educational opportunities outside of the metro Louisville area. A total of 5.75 CEU's were available to attendees who listened to and interacted with veteran healthcare workers Stephen Sayers (Missouri) and Joan Spear (Maryland) of Aesculap Academy. With “Hot Topics in Sterile Processing” as the theme, an AAMI update, performing routine instrument quality checks, tips on reusable rigid sterilization containers, and IAHCSMM’s “loaner” position were all expertly covered. The meeting concluded with a question-and-answer session, the giving away of IAHCSMM gift card door prizes, and in time for some local site-seeing by some of the out-of-town attendees to historic and artsy Paducah, a UNESCO Creative City of Crafts and Folk Art and home to the National Quilt Museum. An optional tour of the host hospital was offered by its sterile processing manager Larry Parsons. Larry serves on the national IAHCSMM executive board and has been a great help and encouragement to our new chapter. Also at the meeting, Joseph Martin, B.A., CRCST, CIS, CHL, was voted in as our new chapter treasurer. Joseph is the Instrument Coordinator at Jewish Hospital in Louisville.
April 8, 2017: The recently revived (April 2016) Kentuckiana IAHCSMM chapter held its first 2017 meeting and annual vendor fair on Saturday, April 8. Louisville’s Jewish Hospital served as host. Guest speaker Chris Nelson of Key Surgical spoke on “Manual Cleaning: Instrument Cleaning Brushes” and “Communication is Key: Bridging the Gap Between OR and SPD” (total 2 CEUs). We thank our vendor fair participants for their presence and support: Halyard Health, Healthmark, Key Surgical, Progressive Medical Instrumentation, Preston and Associates Manufacturers Representatives and ReadySet Surgical.
December 3, 2016: Norton Hospital, Louisville, Ky. Speaker Peggy Prinz Luebbert, Consulting Educator, Halyard Health. "How Do You Know If A Sterilized Package Remains Sterile?" (1 CE). And Kelly Walker, Account Manager, Halyard Health. "The Efficacy of Various Containers" (1 CE). Plus, a "Hot Topics" question-and-answer session about particular issues and concerns members had at their own facilities, thereby learning what others may have done to address a similar concern at their facility.
October 15, 2016: Jewish Hospital, Louisville, Ky. Speaker Martha Page, Clinical Education Specialist, STERIS: "Verification of Clean: How Do You Know Your Instruments Are Ready To Be Sterilized?" and "Sterility Maintenance Concepts" (total 2 CE). And speaker Karen Owens, Senior Professional Services Consultant, STERIS: "Using Lean Methodology: Demystifying Real Applications for CS" (total 1.5 CE).
August 13, 2016: St. Mary's Hospital and Medical Center, Evansville, Ind. Speaker Joan M. Spear, independent sterile processing consultant with JMS Consulting, and Group Director, Clinical Services, Aesculap: "Testing, Validation, IFU and UDI: What Do They Mean?", "Rigid Sterilization Containers" and "AAMI 2014 and IAHCSMM: Loaned Critical and Semi-Critical Medical Devices" (total 4 CE).
June 25, 2016: Jewish Hospital, Louisville, Ky. Summer Seminar and Vendor Fair. Speaker Don Garrison of Prezio Health: "Safety in the CSPD/OR: How Safe is Your Sterile Processing Department?" and "TEE Probe Care and Handling" (total 2 CE).
