IAHCSMM Committees

IAHCSMM offers a wide range of Committees, each geared toward advancing information-sharing, knowledge-advancement and professionalism within the Sterile Processing profession and amongst the IAHCSMM membership. IAHCSMM Committees provide an exciting opportunity for IAHCSMM members to more actively participate in the Association and help steer both current and future developments for IAHCSMM, its membership and the collective SP profession.

Standing Committees

Bylaws Committee

Bylaws/Parliamentarian Committee members work alongside the IAHCSMM Executive Board to review existing bylaws, research and gather information, and rewrite bylaws, as necessary, to better serve the current needs of the Association and its membership. Once written and approved, these bylaws and revisions are then presented to IAHCSMM's membership for a vote.

Corporate Advisory Committee

The IAHCSMM Corporate Advisory Committee (CAC) assists in the planning and implementation of the Annual IAHCSMM Conference and Expo. There are seven corporate members on this committee and each corporate member is committed to a three-year term.

Nominating Committee

The role of the IAHCSMM Nominating Committee is to nominate eligible candidates for office within the Association. This committee aims to nominate those who will continue to uphold the Association's bylaws and standards to ensure that established goals and priorities continue to be met.

Past President Advisory Committee

The role of the Past Presidents Advisory is to assist in the development of the Annual Conference; help publicize the focus of IAHCSMM through active participation in various marketing initiatives; and develop opportunities for IAHCSMM Past Presidents' to participate and serve on various IAHCSMM committees. Past Presidents Advisory members actively support the current President and Executive Board, review submissions for the Past President's Award, and assist in resolving critical issues that may arise.

Special Committees

Advocacy Committee

IAHCSMM's Advocacy Committee works diligently to advocate for Sterile Processing professionals nationwide and educate state elected officials and others on the SP discipline's vital contributions to safe, high-quality care and positive patient outcomes.

State-required certification of SP technicians is a leading priority of IAHCSMM's Advocacy Committee. Operating under this key focus, the Committee provides targeted education to legislators and other state elected officials (as well as the media and general community), on the SP professions' role. Equally important, the Advocacy Committee educates on how certification of SP technicians can help promote safe, effective, standards-based management of medical and surgical instrumentation – from receipt of instrumentation in the SP department to cleaning, disinfection, sterilization, reassembly, and distribution – and then spearheads legislative efforts to promote SP certification at the individual state level.

Awards Committee

The primary responsibility of Awards Committee members is to actively promote and market the awards process to the IAHCSMM membership, and then use eligibility requirements and criteria to select annual award recipients.

Fellowship Committee

Fellowship is an honorable distinction that must be earned through hard work, a commitment to professional advancement, and a desire to raise the bar as both an IAHCSMM member and as a contributor to the SP field. IAHCSMM's Fellowship Committee helps guide prospective Fellows through the process by providing clear criteria regarding Fellowship requirements; reviewing Fellowship paper topics and outlines, mentoring applicants and offering valuable feedback, and then selecting individuals for Fellowship based on set Fellowship criteria and requirements.

This commitment to advancing Sterile Processing knowledge, skill sets and professionalism is why over 37,000 members and certificants rely on IAHCSMM to keep them sharp, focused and abreast of the very latest standards, best practices and technological advancements impacting the SP profession.
