IAHCSMM has discontinued the process of instructor approval. In the past several months there has been some confusion as to the relationship of approved instructors and IAHCSMM. To eliminate that confusion we will no longer provide instructor approvals.
As we did when the IAHCSMM Approved Certified Educator (ACE) program was discontinued, those holding current instructor status will be allowed to continue to use that designation as long as they meet instructor requirements. Please refer to the FAQs listed below.
If you have additional questions please feel free to e-mail Natalie@iahcsmm.org.
Instructor FAQs
Q: I am an approved instructor. How will this impact me?
A: If you are an approved instructor, you will be able to continue to use that title as long as you meet instructor requirements. However, if you fail to meet any of those requirements, you will lose the title and will not be able to reinstate it. A list of instructor requirements is below:
Instructor Requirements
The following requirements must be met to maintain Approved-Instructor status with IAHCSMM:
“IAHCSMM has no employment or independent contractor relationship with any person who otherwise qualifies for designation as an approved instructor for any IAHCSMM course. As such, IAHCSMM has no involvement in, direction over, or responsibility for: the business affairs of any instructor: any program or course sponsored or conducted by any instructor; or any promotional materials published in connection with any such program or course. Other than monitoring that the requirements established for achieving designation as an approved instructor are met and maintained, IAHCSMM disclaims any responsibility, legal or otherwise, for any matter, claim, or dispute involving, arising from, or relating to any instructor activities including without limitation: the substance or content of any program or course conducted by any approved instructor; the manner in which any such program or course is conducted; or the financial terms of or arrangements underlying the conducting of any such program or course.”
Q: I am not an approved instructor and want to teach a course. Can I still do that?
A: Yes. IAHCSMM will no longer accept applications for instructor approval. As the change takes place, individuals will be able to purchase the materials and teach without approval from IAHCSMM.
Q: How can I obtain an Instructor Guide?
A: IAHCSMM members can purchase the Instructor Guide online at www.iahcsmm.org/ecommerce/store.php. Log in to the IAHCSMM Store using your name and IAHCSMM membership number in order to purchase the Instructor Guide.
Q: What support, if any, does IAHCSMM plan to provide for instructors?
A: IAHCSMM will continue to hold an annual educational program for instructors. Formerly known as the “Instructors’ Update,” the program will now be called the IAHCSMM “Workshop on Teaching and Learning.” It will be held each year the Saturday immediately before the IAHCSMM Annual Meeting. IAHCSMM is currently developing CSSD Educator programs for instructors and staff educators.
