I was wondering if anyone could give me feedback on writing on the paper end of a self sealing peelpack. There has been some argument at my facility over putting a piece of autoclave tape on the plastic side and lableling contents with a sharpie marker, or writing on the self sealing paper end of the peel pack with a sharpie marker. (they currently wirite on this paper end, but on the side that folds over the plastic side. Any thoughts? thanks!:

What's wrong with writing directly on the plastic part of the peel pack? Everywhere I've been, that's how we did it.

Isn't the plastic side supposed to be impervious? We are writing directly on the plastic with a sharpie also.

Same here - plastic side. I learned at a seminar this weekend that Sharpie has a sterilization validated marker. I havn't had a chance to double check yet, but Sanford (Sharpie manufacturer) is supposed to have a Sharpie validated for sterilization. It's part # 1361.

Have a great day, all!

you should only write on the taped sealed end of the peel pack.
If you write on the plastic part of the pl pk when the instrument is in it you could create a pin hole. Writing on the plastic should only be written before the instrument is placed in the pouch. Writing on tape and placing it on the plastic would place a less chance of puncturing a hole in the pouch.
