I have a problem that maybe someone can give clarity on. We have a couple of Ortho Docs which uses Rush Rods occassionally. Or Ortho Clinical Lead RN has our Engeeneering Dept drill small holes through the curved end so suture can be passed thouhg it. This question isn't about if this can be done, I already know the answer on the risk management side and that our institution is re-designing a medical device therefore assuming liability if the item fails. I already know Risk Management stands behind my refusal to take these over to the shop for drilling. Of course i have been told..."er have always done that". Well lets just say it is going to stop.

My question(s) Does anybody else do this? And Does anyone know of any Rush Rods which have holes in the curve to pass suture?

I have not heard of this practice before, but we haven't used Rush Rods in years. Another product we have that lives with the Rush Rods are what we call Ender Pins. Now, they are twice bent in the main section, and don't have the curve at the top, but they do have holes in the top for suture. I don't know if this will help, or even what they are used for, but I thought I would throw it out there anyways. If you need more info, I am sure I could dig something up, and maybe post a pic if you need.
