View Full Version : Offsite Processing
Very shortly, my hospital SPD will start receiving instruments from a remote outpatient surgery site for processing. I wanted to know if anyone else who does this has advice for how best to set up the system. Specifically, how do you handle the instruments immediately after the surgical case? I'm wondering if we should just spray the instruments and package them for processing here or if we should try to preclean them before shipping. Obviously, anything we receive here will go through our washers before assembly.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.:)

At my out patient surgical center, when we first opened, we had all of our instruments sent to the main hospital for processing. What we did was the main hospital has a central sterile tech come over 2 to 3 times a day. when they came over the took the dirty instruments washed off the excess blood and got each set ready to go into the washer at the main hospital. they did all of the washing, packaging & sterilizing of the instruments. They would return all of the instruments in the morning by 7am. The hospital would keep a log of every thing we had sent over to be sterilized and would send us a bill once a month for our services. We transported the instruments in a closed case cart. and they went over to the hospital in a panel truck owned by the hospital.
If you need any more information feel free to ask
