My organization recently implemented a "no pass zone" safety measure in the OR. In compliance with the sharp safety protocols, they have decided to use a sterile sticker that states "no pass zone" - to identify the area reserved for the passing of contaminated sharps at the sterile field. During the "time out" the surgeon and surgical technician decide where the location of the zone will be and place the sticker there.

My dilemma - I have a sticker that states "no pass zone" - they come to me unsterile, when I steam sterilize them, will the sticky be sterile?

Thank you,
Lorrie Johnson

Lorrie:

I would call the manufacturer - they should furnish you with sterilization parameters based on their validation studies.

Hope this helps.

You might also see if someone like St. Johns or Veriad can provide them to you sterile. Stickers are usually sterilized with EtO, so I don't know that steam is appropriate.

Talk with the vendor for your OR packs, ours have labels in them and we can customize them to our needs..you might be able to also. That would be a cost savings also in the long run:)
