 We are having problems in our hospital with our Large Limb Dressings. This consists of 1- 10' Combination Roll (Abdominal Pad) rolled around 8 - 8x4 gauze flats , 1 - 4" Webril, 1 - 6" Flannel. We then sterilize this. The problem is the company has changed the Abdominal Pad product and there is a coating on it and when we sterilize the Large Limb the OR gets it and opens it up and it has melted together   It tears apart as they try to unroll it.Also we do not have the sterilization information for this product.

I was wondering what other hospitals use.We use the Large Limb after Knee Surgery Jennifer(Team Leader SPD)

Well, it seems that there may be a couple of solutions to your problem, but none of them are necessarily SPD related. If it were me, I would look into getting either a different type or a different manufacturer for your ABD pads. Another thing you might consider is seeing if you can get the items sterile, separately, and having the O.R. staff make the Dressing in the room (would solve not knowing manufacturer's sterilization recommendations). As far as I know, this is what we are doing, as I don't see the dressings, but know that we give them several single sterile items you mentioned.
