Not sure what catagory this would fall under but I could really use some feedback please.
I am curious as to what job title everyone is under at their hospitals?
We have always been "nursing assistants". Of course, we never have any direct patient care, or anything closely related to that job description in our facility. 4 of us completed the Perdue University course and recieved our certificates. We never persued the certification exam because it will not get us anywhere at this time in our hospital. I believe we should have our job classification changed to "Sterile Processing", or "Central Supply Technician".
This is mostly to protect us from "bumping" from other "nursing assistants" in the event of a layoff. (which has happened once already.) I LOVE my job in sterile processing and also like the occasional hop to work in the distribution center also when needed. I feel our training and knowledge should be enough to set us apart from the rest.
Anyone else out there??!?!?!?

I agree, Pixieduster...

We should be 'set apart' since we absolutely are not nursing assistants. At our facility, we're classified as "Central Supply Technicians".

If you received certificates from Purdue, at the very least you are RCST-Registered Central ServiceTechnicians. That should convince those that need convincing that you ARE NOT "nursing assistants." Credentials after your name that do not include CNA or NA should be a huge clue to the higher ups at your facility.

Yes, actually we are RCSTs. I appreciate the responses. I am going to really persue this further. If we do not do the continuing education credits are we still RCSTs? Thank you so much for the support.

Once you are RCST, you are always. If you pursue certified status, then there are steps you have to take every year to maintain that certification.
