Just curious as to what kind/brand/style of wrap everybody is using, with any pros and cons?
We are using the Kimberly-Clark one step, mostly in the heavy thick style. It's nice because you only have to wrap items once, but I'm not sure it's as cost effective as some others might be.

If you are using the heavy duty kimguard (400 or 500) for your surgical trays, KC also has a lighter weight wrapper for items like basin sets, etc.

We tried another brand from Cardinal I believe was the brand, and it didn't do the job well. We were getting breakthrough so we went back to KC.

We are using the varying weights and sizes of KC wrap.
Looked at Cardinal wrap, didn't appear to be as sturdy as KC.
Looking at containers again to replace some our larger wrapped items.
Our study found if average item is wrapped 2 times per week the cost of a metal tray is recovered after 14 months.

No real concerns, just looking into what everyone is using. My understanding is that KC has patent rights on the one step, so any other brand when used, would have to go wrap once, turn and wrap again. My Medline rep was telling me that theirs has been approved to just grab two wraps and wrap like you would with a one step, but I can see some contamination issues with that. Anybody know any different?
KC does not have the only 2-ply wrap. I used the Allegiance/Cardinal wrap at another workplace, and it was 2-ply. I have to believe that other makers have it, too.

Hmmm...just what I was told by our Medline Rep. He claims that KC has a patent on it so they couldn't make one.

I think Sonny is right, I read where last year Cardinal had to cease production of their wrap because of patent infringement and could only sell what remained in their distribution pipeline.....

We use KC wraps also. Up until Dec. 05 we used Cardinal wraps which were the same as the One Step. They did indeed stop production of them. I didn't know it was because of an infringement on a patent though.
Does anyone use the KC 600 wraps? I was told by the company that they were designed for the heavier trays, over 20#. I imagine they are more expensive?
So KC has the only 2-ply now? That's what's great about this Forum. You always learn something.
