My understanding is that it is NOT appropriate to reuse KC wrappers (I assume you are speaking of the one step double ply). The wrap loses some of it's integrity going through an autoclave, being transported between sterilizer, storage, and OR. This also goes for a wrap that has not been autoclaved but has been labeled with the wrong tape (does that only happen here?). When you remove the tape, it pulls a layer of the fibers off and the integrity of the wrap is compromised.

I just realized that I may have jumped to the conclusion that you are talking about re-using the wraps rather than recycling them. Am I correct, or is there really a way that we could, I don't know, send used wraps back to KC to be broken down and made into new wraps?

I am just talking about recycling for other purposes, the landfills are already overrun with waste and I know they are recycling tires for coating on the freeways and many other products are being recycled this seems such a waste especially if you are doing total hip/knees etc. we can use up to 35 wrappers on a case. Anyone out there know of any companies who would want these? I know that you cannot recycle the wrappers for reuse as this breaks the fibers down I would just like to see them go to another use.

That is a great question, we go through a ton of that stuff too! I think recycling them would be an awesome idea (although it might be a little tough to keep them separated from the other trash!) I will look into this and see what I can come up with.
