In my facility we are located within the OR, however we are kind of our own department. In each of the OR suites they have their own flash sterilizers which they run themselves. Are their any other facilities out there with this set up and if so, do you clean the OR's sterilizers or do they do it themselves.
What about places that are not located within the OR, do you go to the OR and clean their flash units?

Thanks in advance, we are having a little dispute about this as if you couldnt tell. *lol*

Thanks again for any input!!

oru hospital has one of the OR room clean up staff clean the autoclaves in the OR on a monthly basis. The larger sterilizers in CS are done on a contract basis once q 3 months. they are too big to have staff clean, additionally the company that contracts this is well known, reputable, has the tools and cleaning solution to do this.
Consideration- the potential for injury and exposure to chemicals needs to be considered when having staff that are not used to doing this on regular basis nor have the training to do this task.
I do not have the manpower ,either, to take away from other tasks to accomplish this.
hope this helps

Might I ask what company you use to clean your sterilizers?

We just recently contracted out the cleaning of the flash units in OR as well as the SPD sterilizers. Steris was our prefered contractor. Cost is significant, but with the history that we had a staff member injured when doing this task properly and fully protected opened our eyes that some things should be left to professional, qualified and very knowledgable technicians. They hook up a 'dishwasher' type cleaner to the units and it is fully automated..and much safer...check with your local reps for pricing ours was appx 8,000 for 2 large and 6 flash uints. Good luck, :)
