How are your delicate eye instruments cleaned and sterilized? At of facility, the OR hand cleans these instruments and then flashes them just prior to use. Our Infection Control Committee is concerned about this practice. Is this an unusual approach or fairly common? Thanks, CK

In our facility they are done the same way as yours does. We clean and sterilize them after the last case. Time and cost are big factors as to why it is done that way and we have had no problems.

Our facility does the same thing. My concern is are they being cleaned correctly. What should be used to clean them before the flash process?

At our facility, the pre-cleaning is done in the room, then they go to decontam for inspection the into the ultrasound unit (with endozyme aw plus from fuhoff - your enzomatic solution must be free rinsing) for 3 minutes then rinsed with distilled water then they are run (unwrapped) on a 4 min prevac with a 1 minute dry. This is done between every eye case.

Wow! What is your turn around time if I may ask? Also how many cases are done on this one day for eyes?
