What is the thought on a house mechanic bringing his mechanical cart that he takes all over the house into the sterile core of an OR any ideas? Personnaly I think it is wrong they should have a designated cart for OR only.
Love to hear your feedback.

We have had this discussion at our facility many times. Not only maintenance, but radiology doesn't have dedicated equip. for the OR. (such as c-arms.) What one of the doctors pointed out immediately is that the first thing into a sterile room-via the inner workings of the OR-is the patient and the bed that patient is on. The beds come from ED, the pt. floors, PACU, etc.
He made a very good point. As long as the cart or bed doesn't disturb the sterile field, or the staff in the room, they see no problem with that.

I don't believe that outside carts should be brought into SPD/Sterile Rooms. Who knows what they are bringing in to an area that "should be" one of the cleanest rooms in a hospital.

IMHO, I think it just opens up the possibility for "bugs" gettin' into sets, on your scrubs, on your shoes, etc... But not everyone sees things the way we do.

Hopefully someone can post an answer on how they tackled this problem and helped people to see the issues this can cause.
