Blades are sterile......then your suppose to open them.....put them on the handle and sterilize the set........resterilizing the blade I know its suppose to be so they can GO in emergency.......but this sure does'nt seem like a good practice.
If your cutting on me I want the fresh blade not a resterilized one :)
Any thoughts on this?

We open and put blades on handles for the Emergency Room Chest Tray and ICU Chest Trays. I don't like doing it but the floors don't know how to put blades on the handles.

An answer to that problem would be to have sterile disposable blades available with the sets. This works very well for our facility.

That sounds very dangerous to have the blades on the blade handle prior to sterilization.Your blades come in sterile, are they disposable? Can they be resterilized?Do you have the information to resterilize? Our blades are disposable and sterile when we get them.the nurses have to put them on themselfs, they should know how to do that. :) :)

You can purchase disposable blades on disposable handles already sterile and packaged seperately, you just need to have them available with the sterile trays. There are many companies out there to purchase the disposable scalpels from. Hope this helps.
