Where is the location of your chemical indicators in a tray - multi layer and single layer?
I am told the hardest area to sterilize is in the corners of a tray, okay this makes sense.
Are we to put 4 CI’s in a single layer tray or jus 2 in opposing corners?
I ran this past the OR Director and her concern is that the OR staff will have to look for to many indicators she also has a few other concerns but she is resisting this change in practice. I explained the AAMI standard and what the manufacturer of our indicators say and her response was well we don’t follow all the AORN standards to a ‘T’. So I am stuck HELP:rolleyes: -thanks-

AAMI 10.9 speaks to placing multiple CI's in corners and other challenging areas only for periodic QA testing of routinely processed trays.
In section 10.5.2.2 AAMI addresses internal placement of CI's as only "An (one?) internal CI should be used within each package tray or rigid container system to be sterilized." Also "The CI should be placed in that area of the package, tray or container system considered to be least accessable to steam penetration. This location might or might not be the center of the package, tray or container system."
With those statements (?) in mind, our best practice policy is one class 5 CI per level of tray placed at a varying location each level depending on the items in the tray.
