I understand that you cannot store anything in corrugated boxes if is the out side shipping box, how does this apply to syringes that are shipped wrapped in plastic. For those of you who also do distribution and keep your supplies in CS and have these syring boxes how do you store them? do you keep them in the box or do you repackage them when you bring them into the dept?
Our administration is telling the depts that they cant even keep these boxes in their store rooms where they keep their supplies.
Our sister hospital has a new CS Director and she is making them re bag them in their CS. I think the manufactuer should redesign their packaging, that would solve all our problems.

"Outside" containers-cardboard boxes- should not be in any storage areas of central as they often contain fungus that can cause nosocomial infection. In our department the syringes (still in their plastic wrap) are removed from the cardboard boxes and placed in plastic storage bins. This seem to work fairly well although occasional cleaning of the plastic storage bins in recommended.

A little more about your problem. If the plastic you are referring to is a protective covering around a cardboard, then, once the plastic is removed, you still cannot store the (corrugated cardboard) box as the outside of the box(and the inside of the protective covering) will hold fungal spores.

If the plastic container for the syringes is meant to double as a shipping/storage container -that is a bad idea as any type of outside contaminant may stick to the plastic and be brought into the building and /or storage areas. Hope this helps...barry govenor
