Does anyone have a policy they would share with me that indicates how you handle the following:

1. The instruments are in the room, opened, and case is cancelled. The patient was never in the room. Do you send all the opened instruments back through Decontamin or do you send them back to clean area where they are reprocessed as "opened, not used".

2. Patient is in room, instrument sets are in the room but never opened. Do you send them through Decontamin or restock them without reprocessing.

3. We are getting conflicting issues with this and I'm trying to locate the standard so if anyone know where that is, would be helpful too.

Thanks for your help. Would appreciate you emailing your policy or answers as am working on right now. Thanks. peterss@mail.gprmc.com

Usually the room is set before the patient enters it!
If the case is cancelled with a patient in the room, we send everything to Decontam, open or not. If nothing was open and no patient was in the room, we receive everything in the case cart area and we put them back on shelves. If items were open but no patient was in the room, the disposable items are usually discarded and instruments are sent through the clean elevator to be reassembled and resterilized.
