Is there any software out there that just creates/edits countsheets? We don't need an instrument tracking system, or anything that fancy. Just a more efficient way of organizing our sets, and communicating repairs, etc.

Also, does anyone have a computer in their decontam area? I don't think this is such a good idea. They are thinking this is a good way to get any changes recorded immediately.

Thanks!

The CIMS2 supported by Jarit/Integra will assist you with and create count sheets. It has an area to document "special instructions" like assembly information, maintenance, decontamination, sterilization and storage on each count sheet. The disadvantage is it is difficult and time consuming to enter "not Jarit" instruments into the data base; however it is possible.

No, to the computer in Decontam. Just my opinion.

Thank you! I believe most of the instruments we have may be from Jarit. We will have to look into this!

My two cetns on this topic.

I think it is a good idea and can help the staff in so many ways You first have to make sure you have the correct type of equipment.

They now make key pads that are flat and you wipe off very easy. I have seen them. I have used them. YOUr ICU units have them or should, that is where I have seen them. You should not have to buy the tradional type key pads. They are very nice. I do not know the company but if you want I can find out.

Next I would just have screen and a key pad and it you have a hand wand scanner .

These items would be dedicated to this area. I would network a printer to this terminal. that way you can print remotely what you need in a clean area.

You will be utilizing your computer system to the max concerning information. Wanding in when something arrives and where it is at in the next stage of processing.

Just my two cents.

We are currently using the Impress 2.0 from V. Meuller. We are upgrading to the newest impress out. We went to a Alabama hospital to see the newest impress and it is amazing. The software is very user friendly and easy to make changes to the countsheets. The new system is also a tray tracking system. We are going to put a computer in our decontame area for tracking purposes. If you want any information just email me ben.johnson@crmchealth.org

I have a PC in my decontam area as we track all of the trays throughout our system. this system is only sued by decon personel and is wiped clean many times during each shift. we only use a hand held device, no keyboard. Jarit can create count sheets for you that you can manage on any PC. There is no cost associated and simple to use.

We have a computer in our Decontam and might put another out there. Standard desktop model secured on a computer cart. We have a really good spot for it though, next to the dirty elevator against two small walls. No sinks anywhere in site. The computer out there is cleaner than any computer we have on our prep & pack side (due to all the blue lint from towels and wraps) and no one here ever cleans a computer (except me and I dont' have the time very often). So I say go for it. Just find an out of the way place for it where it will have minimal chance of water exposure. Also, if you are worried about a keyboard, there are waterproof (and even dishwasher proof) keyboards you can buy online, mice too. I like this site a lot: http://www.ruggedtech.com/
Good luck.
