As a cost saving idea, we are looking at using towels instead of tray liners. Thoughts?

We used to use towels on some of our trays to line. We stopped after they found some lint on some of them and now only use the disposable lint free liners.

OR towels used in sets as a packaging aid or tray liners presents the risk of lint and fibers getting on to instruments and being depositted into the surgical site which can cause serious harm to patients as foriegn matter. Reprocessed towels also can retain laundering detergents and related chemicals which can also be deposited on instruments and pose a risk to the patient and be damaging to instruments. There are many options for disposable packaging aids and tray liners. The disposable option is not only a better technique but the economics may actually be a savings when you consider the cost of purchasing, reprocessing, inspecting, delinting etc of reusable or disposable towels.

I agree with Ray!
We stopped using reprocessed towels and began using approved for sterilization disposables, definitely saving us time and money....
(oh, ya the patient safety thing too :D )
