I'd like to see other hospitals policies on scrubs for CS personnel. Our Surgery utilizes hospital laundered scrubs. Our department has worn home laundered scrubs for several years, but some OR staff members have started to questioon this practice. Do most places require CS staff to wear hospital scrubs or their own. And if they wear their own, do they have to change into them after arriving at the hospital or can they wear them from home?

We follow AAMI recommendations, wearing scrubs provided and cleaned by the hospital.
Not everyone with take home scrubs has the same definition of "clean" when laundering.
If you wear from home, how do you change out after decontam?
Our facility, citing health reasons will not allow wearing facility issued scrubs off the property.

We use hospital issued scrubs which they have laundered. I know I wouldn't want to take them home and wash them in my home.

We get them from an outsource as well. We have also cracked down on scrubs leaving the building and coming back in. IF you leave the building, you change when you come back in. Also, no more cloth hats which is a bummer as they were fun to see but its better for our pts so that is all that matters.

I found the article very interesting. Our manager has mandated we all wear long sleeved jackets at all times-does anyone else find that contradictory to what is in this article? Long sleeves spread germs-and now we have to wear them all the time?

I would like to know if your department changes scrubs when going to the Cafeteria, ie...street clothes/uniform? Thank you:)

Our hospital does not change clothes when leaving the department, only when leaving the hospital. They studied it and felt that the hospital is a more "controlled environment" so its ok. We used to have to wear a cover up years ago but dont do that anymore either.

I don't think it's necessary to change clothes when leaving SPD for a trip inside the hospital like going to the cafeteria. However, a lab jacket should be required when leaving the funtional units of the department. If somebody is leaving Assembly or Case Cart to go to the lounge, a lab jacket must be worn.
Is it necessary to dust cover floor trays? If yes, why?

We wear hospital-laundered scrubs and hospital dedicated shoes. If we go outside the hospital, we are required to change scrubs. We do not have to change scrubs when leaving our department as we are all over the hospital delivering patient care equipment, doing rounds, and exchanging crash carts. We do not change clothes to go to the cafeteria. I have always asked my staff to wear a jacket when leaving the department. Most of the ladies do, but the men in my department never wear jackets.

Does anybody know of any general policy on lab jackets? In my hospital, absolutely everybody is required to have a lab jacket and wear it when necessary! SPD staff in a cafeteria without a lab jacket is something I cannot understand!
