The new CDC infection control guideline was prepared by the Healthcare Infection Control Practices Advisory Committee (HICPAC) and Drs. Rutala and Weber, infection control experts from UNC. This update to the 1980s guideline includes new topics; such as: inactivation of antibiotic-resistant bacteria; bioterrorist agents, emerging pathogens, and bloodborne pathogens; toxicologic, environmental, and occupational concerns associated with disinfection and sterilization practices; disinfection of patient-care equipment used in ASCs and home care; new sterilization processes, such as H2O2 and liquid peracetic acid; and disinfection of complex medical instruments, such as endoscopes.

Everyone should check out this comprehensive new document and utilize it as a major resource, along with AAMI standards and AORN Recommended Practices!

Has anyone been involved in a recall of instrumentation that was used on a patient with diagnoised with CJD? Also, were you able to locate all patients that may have been affected?
