What methods are you all using to demagnetize your instruments? I have been asked to look for other alternatives. Thanks

We use a surgical instrument demagnetizer

We used to demagnetize in our department, but as soon as the instrument touched one that had not been demagnetized, the magnetic condition returned.
Our scub techs asked for a device they could use in the OR, away from the sterile field, so I purchased a few hand held screwdriver demagnitizers from Grainger. You just pass the tip through the opening, not touching the sides so not contaminating the instrument, and it's demagnetized.
Not much $$ and the scrub techs report they work great.

I'm trying to find information/articles specific to demagnitizing instruments. The whys and such. Any suggestions? Thanks!

This has been a real problem for us. The small demagnetizers overheat after about 3-4 instruments. I just purchased a large demagnetizer that will demagnetize an entire pan of instruments. So far we really like it. Not cheap but is very nice. http://www.em-chicago.com/Demagnetizers_Medical.htm
