September Meeting

Our September meeting was held on the 24th at Maricopa Medical Center in Phoenix. Thank you, Mattie Castro, for the use of your beautiful conference room. Bruce Sleboda from SPSmedical presented a stimulating program to 38 attendees on Flashed Instruments: Are they sterile or did they just get hot? Thank you, Bruce and SPS!

Ninth Annual Conference

Our Ninth Annual Conference, Sterile Processing Without Borders, was held October 14 & 15 at the Fiesta Resort and Conference Center in Tempe. We are pleased to report that our conference was an unequivocal success! Over 225 attendees were treated to four outstanding speakers. Steve Kovach from Healthmark, Matt Rudolph from Spectrum and Michael Weng, M.D., joined our featured speaker and kept the attendees interested and stimulated for 6 educational hours.

Our featured speaker was Officer Jason Schecterle of the Phoenix police department. Jason presented Beyond the Flames, an inspirational story of his life after a tragic and horrific on-duty accident in 2001 that left him near death and drastically altered his appearance. There was not a dry eye in the house as Jason told his often hilarious, often heart-wrenching story of trying to return to a normal life.

We would also like to thank our 30 exhibitors for their support. We know that the success of our conference depends, in no small way, on their support. We would like to particularly thank our sponsors: Healthmark, Getinge, Spectrum, SPSmedical and Steris. Your extra financial support helped put our conference over the top and will allow us to continue to offer much-needed scholarships to our members.

In addition to thirty $50 door prizes that were awarded during the conference, we once again awarded a Grand Prize. Congratulations to Senija Kopic-Mujagic from Mayo Clinic Hospital! Senija will have her registration and lodging paid by the Chapter to attend the annual IAHCSMM in Albuquerque in May 2012.

Held on the fourth Saturday of the month from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
With one hour of education either with a speaker or round table discussion and one hour for business meeting afterward.
